Ultimate relaxation with hot stone massage:
The use of hot stones in massage goes back to ancient times. The hot stones are usually made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain the heat better. River rocks are normally used because they are very smooth, being smoothed over time by the rivers current.
We heat our stones in a heating unit and then place them to the side as we introduce the heat with the therapist hands. Then, with warm massage oil, the stones are used as an extension of the therapist’s hands while massaging the body. Afterwards the stones will be placed in certain points or chakras of the body. Stones are placed on these points because they are thought to be energy centers of the body and to rebalance the body and mind.
The stones can be used to release tension and aches in the muscles through the heat. Hot stone massage has also been found to be extremely beneficial to clients with back pain, poor circulation, arthritis, anxiety, insomnia and depression.
